Setting a goal | gdgtgrl's Blog

I only have six goals - most of them are fairly easily accomplished. The lastest one - to have lap band surgery is the largest, most difficult, and most life changing. The only thing stopping me from having the surgery in Canada or the US was money. I've done a fair amount of research on the surgery and the post op and long term challenges I'd need to face, and am convinced that it's the best option for me. I talked to my doctor yesterday. Once I found out my BMI is 35, and in the range for the surgery, and that it is approved by our provincial health plan for the procedure to be done in Detroit, I'm ready. It may take some time for the approvals to come though, and it may not even be approved, but I'm hopeful. I've been yo-yo dieting for 30 years or so (my mom put me on my first one at age 10). Lost and regained the weight dozens of times. I've been on Xenical, weight watchers, and countless diets. With a family history of cancer and diabeties, and an aboriginal background, unless I do something fairly drastic, I'm bound to have diabeties. Of the all the procedures, this one is the most safe, and is reversable. I'm not scared at all, I'm ready to deal with my weight once and for all. If this is what it takes, then so be it.
