On June 11, we were told "long weeks and short months". It turned out to be one very long difficult week. My dad passed 7 days later - peacefully and without pain. Now I move on. I make plans to take my mom shopping in Michigan (something she and Dad used to do), and what to do about the financial details of their life. This will take time to sort out.
For now though whenever I see men playing slow pitch, watch the Blue Jays play baseball (maybe now they'll win), watch The West Wing, and eat Tim Horton's Strawberry tarts - I'll think about my Dad and smile. This is how I'll remember him. Calling me as soon as West Wing was over, getting so excited over the Jays win that he couldn't stand it, talking about changes at the lake at the table after our family huge feed of chinese food on boxing day.
He saw a lot in his life time...he never lived to see his granddaughters establish their own lives - but somewhere he's fishing off the dock and smiling. Finally home. Save a spot for me Dad! This Blog Entry's Comment Board (2 comments)
